Plaster of Paris (POP) Gypsum Powder is a finely processed gypsum-based material primarily composed of calcium sulfate hemihydrate (CaSO₄·½H₂O). When mixed with water, it undergoes a controlled hydration reaction and converts back into gypsum, forming a hard, smooth, and durable solid.

Due to its easy mixing, smooth finish, and relatively fast setting characteristics, Plaster of Paris is widely used in construction, interior decoration, mould making, sculpture, handicrafts, casting, ceiling work, art and craft projects, and educational applications.

POP is particularly useful for creating decorative shapes, ornamental designs, moulds, figurines, prototypes, and smooth surface finishes. It can be easily shaped before setting and can be sanded, carved, painted, or finished after complete drying.

Basic Mixing & Application

A typical procedure is:

1. Measure the required amount of clean water.
2. Slowly add POP powder to the water.
3. Allow the powder to absorb water for a short period.
4. Mix gently until a smooth, lump-free paste is obtained.
5. Pour or apply the mixture immediately.
6. Allow it to set completely before removing from the mould or applying further finishing.

The water-to-powder ratio and working time should follow the manufacturer's TDS, as different POP grades require different mixing conditions.

Important

Avoid excessive mixing after the setting process has started, as this can affect the final properties of the material.
